School Aged Achievement 1

Achievement 1 is our first level where the student will learn how to be comfortable in the water. This class is designed for school-aged students who have not had formal swimming lessons.


To pass this level the student must demonstrate the following:

  • Blow bubbles and pick up a toy from under the water, body fully submerged
  • Enter the water safely monkey along pool edge & exit the water safely and confidently independently.
  • Float and recover to a secure position with a buoyant aid.
  • Kick with a noodle on my front & back independently
  • Kick on my front with a noodle and board independently
  • Kick on my back with a board with minimal assistance.
  • Doggy paddle with a noodle independently
  • Balance on a noodle and move through the water independently
  • Jump, return & exit the water safely with minimal assistance

School Aged Achievement 2

Achievement 2 is our second school-aged achievement level where the student will continue to develop their comfort and safety in the water. To join this class the student will have already successfully completed Achievement 1. If the student is new to The Little Swim School, an assessment will be required, as the class requires the students in this class to be confident in the water. 


To pass this level the student must demonstrate the following

  • Enter the water safely monkey along pool edge & exit the water safely and confidently independently.
  • Blow bubbles and pick up a toy from under the water, body fully submerged
  • I can fall into the water and safely exit with assistance
  • Float on my front and back and recover to a standing or secure position
  • Kick with a board in my back independently 7m
  • Kick with a board on my front independently 7m
  • Swim independently 5m
  • Push and glide independently 5m
  • Kick on my back with soldier arms with assistance 7m
  • Balance on a noodle and move through the water independently
  • Jump, return & exit the water safely independently

School Aged Achievement 3

Achievement 3 is the third level in our school-aged swim classes. At this level, we will begin to introduce skills such as freestyle and backstroke and perfect previously learnt skills such as torpedoes. Students will be comfortable enough to swim independently and should only need teacher assistance when correcting skills. 


To pass this level the student must demonstrate the following:

  • Float on my front and back and recover to a standing or secure position
  • Submerge the body and move through an obstacle
  • Torpedo in a streamline body position 7.5m
  • Kick on my back with superhero arms independently 7.5m
  • Introduction to freestyle arms 7.5m
  • Introduction to backstroke arms with assistance 7.5m
  • Scull on my back independently 7.5m
  • Introduction to dolphin kick with assistance 5m

Find A School Aged A3 Class

School Aged Achievement 4

Achievement 4 is the fourth level in our school-aged classes. At this stage students will begin to understand buoyancy and why their bodies move the way they do in water. We will begin to focus on side breathing with our freestyle and work on perfecting our backstroke. Students will be able to swim along the bottom of our pool and scull on their front and back. 


To pass this level the student must demonstrate the following:

  • Float, scull or tread water for 1 minute
  • Surface dive, swim underwater and recover an object 5m
  • Swim freestyle with introduction to side breathing 7.5m
  • Torpedo front and back streamline body position 7.5m
  • Backstroke with correct technique 7.5m
  • Survival backstroke arms 7.5m
  • Introduction to survival backstroke kick 7.5m
  • Dolphin kick independently 7.5m

Find a School Aged A4 Class

School Aged Achievement 5

Achievement 5 is the fifth level in our school-aged swimming lessons. At this stage students will be mastering their side breathing in freestyle and backstroke, we will also start swimming a little bit further. Teachers will also begin to introduce “frog kick” which opens up students to multiple new skills/strokes. 


To pass this level the student must demonstrate the following:

  • Float, scull or tread water for 2 minutes and signal for help
  • Freestyle  with correct technique 10m
  • Backstroke with correct technique 10m
  • Survival backstroke 10m
  • Dolphin kick on front with a breath 10m
  • Introduction to breaststroke arms with assistance 7.5m
  • Introduction to breaststroke kick on front 7.5m

Find a School Aged a5 class

School Aged Achievement 6

Achievement 6 is the final level in our school-aged swimming lessons. At this stage students will continue mastering their freestyle and backstroke skills, we will also start swimming a little bit further. Teachers will also begin to introduce breaststroke and survival backstroke. 


To pass this level the student must demonstrate the following:

  • Float, scull or tread water for 5 min and signal for help
  • Freestyle with correct technique 15m
  • Backstroke with correct technique 15m
  • Survival backstroke correct technique 15m
  • Breaststroke correct technique 15m
