Industry studies have shown that earlier exposure to swim lessons helps with water safety, and water familiarisation, as well as social and cognitive development. The Aquatic Industry recommends you start at home with water play from birth and formal lessons from between 3-6 months. It is, however, never too late to start learning water safety and swimming skills. During the early stage lessons for students of all ages, we work on breath control and submersion, water familiarisation, safe entries and exits, grips and holds. The lessons change and vary based on your child's physical and emotional development. For example, we only introduce standing jumps when the child can physically do it, to avoid any injuries. We teach you take-home skills that will assist you in daily life. We offer a force-free and child-led learning approach to our classes.
Here at The Little Swim School, we want to ensure each student receives personalised attention, which is why we keep our classes small. Our class sizes are as follows:
We have classes available 7 days a week, throughout the day and in the evenings. The available class times will depend on the age & assessed level of the student, and we make every effort to accommodate siblings to have their lessons on the same day wherever possible. We operate in line with the Victorian School Terms, with breaks during the school holidays. We welcome new students to join us at any time and can enrol students up to 7 days in advance. Our fees are payable in advance on a monthly basis. We are closed on Public Holidays.
Payments are made monthly via direct debit from a nominated bank account (BSB & Account Number) or credit card (MasterCard or Visa – sorry, no Amex!). We are also able to work with NDIS funding, invoicing, and receipting. Our fee schedule is as follows:
*NB. Prices quoted are subject to annual increase on 1st October each year.
The Little Swim School is a family-owned business that operates with passion and purpose to offer quality swimming and water safety programs. Our Founder and Director, Jess, has been part of the aquatic industry for almost 20 years. Her career has seen her in a variety of roles, searching for her place within the working community. About 10 years ago while she was searching for her "grown-up" career, Jess discovered that her passion and purpose were right in front of her! It was time to become the master of her craft. Over the past decade, Jess has managed large swim schools in local government-run pools with over 2,500 students and has worked for peak industry bodies including Life Saving Victoria and AUSTSWIM. Jess also teaches pool lifeguard courses, swimming training and water safety courses. Jess is dedicated to teaching swimming to children of all ages and loves seeing the progress in all of her students.
Jess wants to make a difference and an impact, and with her husband Trav, they decided the best way to do this is by opening their own swim school. This decision has allowed Jess to operate in a way where her business can be run with passion and purpose, she can be creative and dynamic, and take a personalised approach to all students, without the limitations of working in a larger centre. The Little Swim School strives to be innovative, passionate, and perfect. We have the opportunity to train and reward staff, and we can empower our team to find their love of aquatics, just like Jess has.
You can enrol now here. We also accept enrolments over the phone, email, social media, and in person.
Providing that 2 hours’ notice is given – and there is availability in a suitable class – we offer one make-up lesson per month. Notice can be given via call, text, or email. Make-up lessons are valid for 30 days. Full terms and conditions can be found in our Customer Portal.
Each child is unique in the way they learn and develop, both emotionally and physically. Because of this, there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to learning and skill acquisition. We will keep you regularly updated of your child’s progress and ways in which their learning can be complimented. Should you ever have any queries or concerns regarding your child’s progression, please feel free to discuss it with your child’s teacher or pool deck supervisor.
We strongly encourage year-round swimming to facilitate continuous progression and avoid the loss of skills previously learnt.
Participants should:
Washable swim nappies and goggles are available for purchase from reception.
If you or your child are feeling unwell, please do not attend your class. We ask that you seek medical advice and stay home if you have a cough, fever, or flu-like symptoms.
To keep pathogens out of the pool, it is important not to swim with diarrhoea.
When you have an infection, you should not swim while infectious. For example:
Steps to Healthy Swimming
By following these simple steps, you can help keep the pool safe and clean:
Parent & Child classes are recommended until the child is between 3-5 years of age.
We offer a flexible approach to transitioning your child into a class on their own. As all children develop emotionally at different rates, we recommend that you follow your child’s emotional needs.
To be successful in a class on their own, they need strong listening and comprehension skills, the ability to follow instructions and must have awareness of their own personal safety. We are happy to discuss your child’s progress and suitability for independent classes
We offer a comfortable learning environment in our purpose-built pool, with a uniform depth of 1.1m. Our staff are compassionate and well-equipped to help you feel comfortable within the class. We also offer adult learn-to-swim classes and encourage you to join these sessions.
Your child’s teacher or pool deck supervisor will keep you updated on all progress. Once your child is approaching the next level, we will discuss suitable session days and times to move to the next level. Your child’s progress is available to view in your Customer Portal.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, please discuss these with their teacher or pool deck supervisor.
We require two weeks notice in writing (via email) to cancel an enrolment.
